Aileen,
I just checked my admission status and I got in to Hass!!! I can’t believe it. No one was more instrumental in assisting me in crafting my UC application. I literally could not have written the essay I wrote without you. You made the seemingly impossible task of writing an autobiography into the realistic manageable assignment of describing how I was the right guy for Hass. You are the first person I am writing because you are the first person I thought of when I found out I got in. You may or may not understand, but you gave me the confidence to believe I should try. If you remember, I am the first in my family to apply for a research university, only the second to attend college, and my parents are mexican immigrants that don’t speak english and didn’t finish elementary school. It’s not that I dreamed of going to a university and might not get it; university never seemed like a dream that could belong to me. So no matter what anyone has done, to include myself, without your encouragement, explanation of the process, and willingness to take a chance on me by putting me in your TAP program at the high risk of me not getting in and messing up your stats, I would not have experienced the subtle change in paradigm which moved me to try. I hope I have conveyed how important your support has been, and I hope you are proud of what you do. You are a fine example. You are successful, and you take the time to reach back and help others succeed. I plan to do exactly that because you have shown me first hand how powerful getting others to believe in themselves can be. Thank you.
Very Respectfully,
[One of my most inspiring students]
Is the bestest person ever. I love her with all my heart.
